About Iron Horse Vineyards
Iron Horse is the sparkling wine specialist of Green Valley, a cool corner of the Russian River Valley in western Sonoma. The Sterling family has produced méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines here since 1980, and their bottles have been served at every White House state dinner since the Reagan administration. The estate also makes excellent still Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the same vineyards that supply the sparkling fruit.
The Green Valley microclimate — cool, fog-influenced, and significantly cooler than the rest of Sonoma — is ideal for the high-acid Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that make great sparkling wine. The Wedding Cuvée (a delicate Brut Rosé) is the most-loved cuvée, but the Russian Cuvée (named for hosting the Reagan-Gorbachev summit toast) and the dry, structured Brut X are equally fine.
What to Expect
The tasting experience at Iron Horse is famously outdoor — a hilltop deck overlooking the estate vineyards with the cool Green Valley breeze. The standard tasting walks through 5-6 sparkling wines plus a still Pinot or Chardonnay. The view alone is worth the trip. The hospitality is warm and unfussy.

Visitor Tips
