About Tablas Creek Vineyard
Tablas Creek is the most influential winery in Paso Robles — the estate that, more than any other, established the region as America's premier home for Rhône varietals. Founded in 1989 as a joint venture between the Perrin family (of Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape) and importer Robert Haas, Tablas Creek imported certified vine cuttings directly from Beaucastel and propagates them at its on-site grapevine nursery — supplying the rest of California with the Rhône clonal material that has powered the entire movement.
The wines are a faithful Paso Robles expression of Rhône Valley philosophy. The flagship Esprit de Tablas is a Châteauneuf-style blend dominated by Mourvèdre with Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise — structured, age-worthy, and unmistakably terroir-driven. The Cotes de Tablas Blanc is a Roussanne-led white that drinks brilliantly young and ages beautifully. Tablas was also one of the first US wineries to convert fully to biodynamic farming, in 2010.
What to Expect
The standard tasting walks through 6-7 wines, including white, rosé, and red Rhône blends. The premium Vineyard Tour & Tasting (90 min) adds a guided walk through the biodynamic vineyards and a deeper dive into the blends. Hospitality is famously generous — Tablas treats every visitor as a fellow Rhône enthusiast.

Reservations strongly recommended on weekends. The Patelin de Tablas (entry-level blend) is one of California's best wine values. Buy a library bottle from the cellar — the Esprit at 8+ years is a different wine. The vineyard tour is essential for understanding biodynamic farming.
