About Domaine Carneros
Domaine Carneros is Napa Valley's most prestigious sparkling wine estate — a stunning French chateau perched on a hillside in the Carneros appellation, founded in 1987 by the Taittinger family of Champagne fame. The estate was established with a single mission: to create world-class méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines using the same grape varieties and techniques as the finest Champagnes, but expressed through the unique terroir of Carneros.
The flagship Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs is widely regarded as one of the finest sparkling wines produced in the United States — a 100% Chardonnay cuvée that spends six or more years on the lees before disgorgement, developing extraordinary complexity, toasty brioche notes, and a creamy mousse that rivals Grand Cru Champagne. The Brut Cuvée and Brut Rosé offer more accessible entry points, both showcasing the precision and elegance that define the house style.
The chateau itself is modeled after the Taittinger family's 18th-century Château de la Marquetterie in Champagne, France, and the resemblance is striking. The grand staircase, the formal gardens, and the sweeping views across the Carneros vineyards create an atmosphere of European grandeur that is unique in Napa Valley. Domaine Carneros also produces excellent still Pinot Noir from estate fruit, making it a versatile stop for visitors who appreciate both bubbles and reds.
What to Expect
Tastings at Domaine Carneros are served seated on the elegant terrace or in the salon, depending on the season. The standard experience includes a flight of sparkling wines — typically the Brut Cuvée, Brut Rosé, and a vintage or reserve pour — served with optional food pairings. The table service format sets Domaine Carneros apart from typical tasting room experiences; you are seated, served by attentive staff, and encouraged to linger.
The terrace views across the Carneros hills are among the most photographed in Napa Valley. On clear days, the panorama stretches to San Pablo Bay and beyond. The experience feels distinctly celebratory — sparkling wine on a sunlit terrace overlooking vineyards — and it is the perfect way to start or finish a Napa Valley wine day. Allow 45-60 minutes for a full tasting, longer if you add the estate tour.

Visitor Tips
Domaine Carneros is located at the southern end of Napa Valley in the Carneros AVA, making it an ideal first or last stop on a north-south itinerary. Reservations are recommended, especially for terrace seating on weekends. The Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs is the must-try pour — it is extraordinary and represents some of the best sparkling winemaking in America. If you enjoy Pinot Noir, ask to add a still wine to your flight. The estate is stunning for photos — arrive in the late afternoon for the best light.
