About Ravines Wine Cellars
Ravines Wine Cellars is one of the leading lights of the modern Finger Lakes — a husband-and-wife estate (Morten Hallgren, formerly of Domaine Skouras in Greece, and Lisa Hallgren) producing dry, food-friendly wines in a distinctly European style. The estate operates two tasting rooms on Seneca Lake (Geneva on the north and a smaller location on the lake's east side) and produces some of the most consistently excellent Rieslings, Pinot Noirs, and dry rosés in the region.
The Ravines house style is dry, mineral, and intentionally restrained — the wines are made for the table, not for show. The standard Dry Riesling has become one of the benchmark wines of the region. The single-vineyard Argetsinger Vineyard Riesling is small-production and worth seeking out. The Pinot Noir is made in a Burgundian style with whole-cluster fermentation, and the dry rosé (from Cabernet Franc) is among the best summer wines in the Eastern US.
What to Expect
The Geneva tasting room is open and modern, with views over Seneca Lake. The standard tasting walks through 5-6 wines. The premium tasting adds single-vineyard bottlings and library wines. Service is informed and conversational.
