About Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery
Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery is the foundational estate of the modern Finger Lakes — the family that, more than any other, proved that European Vinifera grapes could survive the harsh upstate New York winters. Dr. Konstantin Frank, a Ukrainian-born grape geneticist, planted the first Vinifera vines in the Finger Lakes in 1958 against the prevailing wisdom that only hardy native and hybrid grapes could grow here. He was right, and his work transformed not just the Finger Lakes but the entire Eastern US wine industry.
Today the winery is run by the fourth generation of Franks and produces one of the most diverse portfolios in the region. The Dry Riesling is the flagship and a long-time benchmark for the region. The Old Vines Pinot Noir is made from vines planted in the 1950s. And the estate uniquely produces Saperavi (a Georgian red grape) and Rkatsiteli (a Georgian white) that connect back to Dr. Frank's Eastern European heritage.
What to Expect
The hilltop tasting room overlooks Keuka Lake — one of the most scenic views in upstate New York. The standard tasting walks through 6-7 wines from across the portfolio. The premium reserve tasting includes library Riesling and the rare Saperavi. Hospitality is welcoming and educational.

Reservations recommended. The Keuka Lake view is best in golden hour — book a late afternoon slot. Try the Saperavi and Rkatsiteli — you cannot easily taste these elsewhere in the US. The estate is a National Historic Landmark; allow time to read about Dr. Frank's contributions to American wine.
